Itinerary
:
Day 1 (Aug 29) Delhi – Manali 541 km ( 13 Hrs. Drive)
Board the night bus to Manali.Over night in the bus.
Day 2 (Aug 30) Manali {6398 ft}
Arrive
Manali
in
the
morning.
Whole
day
free to explore Manali town.
Overnight at Manali.
One
day,
Varvasvata,
the
seventh
incarnation
of
Manu found a
tiny fish in his bathing water. The fish told him to look after it with
devotion as one day it would do him a great service. The seventh Manu
cared for
the fish till the day it grew so huge that he released it into the sea.
Before
departing, the fish warned Manu of an impending deluge when the entire
world
would be submerged and bade him to build a sea worthy ark. When the
flood came,
Varvasvata and seven sages were towed to safety by Matsya, the fish
which is
regarded as first avatar of Lord Vishnu. As the water subsided the
seventh
Manu's ark came to the rest on a hill side and the place was named
Manali (2050
m) after him.
As the flood slowly dried, here arose a
place of
breath- taking natural beauty which was only appropriate at Manali that
life
began again. Today this legendary cradle of all human kind is a prime
holiday
destination.This is will be our first halt on our way to Ladakh.
Today
is
free
time
to
discover
this
beautiful
region on your own. You can either scout the busy market area
or
visit the Hadimba Temple famous for its carvings or just stroll around
forested
areas.
Day 3 (Aug 31) Manali- Jispa {10,890
ft} 116 kms ( 5 - 6 hrs approx.)
After an early breakfast drive to Jispa via Rohtang pass (3980 M). Overnight at Jispa.
Jispa is a small little town on the banks of Bhaga river to stay over and catch our breath before we acend higher up.

04 (Sept 01) Jispa – Serchu {14,074
ft} – Tsokar,Salt Lake {14,714 ft} 122 kms (6
- 7 hrs approx.)
After beakfast drive to Sarchu via Baralacha La (4892 M)
Sarchu
is
inhabited
by
Himalayan
Clan
Gaddi
and
few lonely soldiers at an army
outpost. It is also the actual border between Lahaul and Zanskar.
Tsokar
Lake
is
situated
in
Salt
Lake
Valley
of
Leh
District
of and covers an area of about
ten square kilometers. Tsokar Lake is rich
in
huge deposits of impure salt, mostly found on its northern shore. This
salt is
collected by the Changpas and
used
as
barter
to
obtain
goods
from
other parts of Ladakh.

05
(
Sept
2)
-
Tsokar
to
Tsomoriri Lake {15075 ft} 85 kms (3 Hrs)
After leisurely breakfast drive to Tsomoriri. Arrive Tsomoriri by lunch
time.
Hot lunch at Tsomoriri. After lunch explore Tsomoriri Lake. Overnight
in Camp.
Tsomoriri,
one
of
the
highest
lakes
in
the
world. Tsomoriri which is a fresh to brackish water lake, spread over
an area
of about 120 sq.km. with a maximum depth of 40 m. Wet meadows and borax
loaded
wetlands covering around 10 sq.km. border its northern and southern
shores. The lake is one of the best places to
see wildlife and
birds of the region.
Day 06 (
Sept 3) Tsomoriri to Leh {11,490 ft} 225 kms (7 – 8 hrs
approx)
After the
breakfast walk around the Lake and drive
to Leh via Mahey Bridge and Chumathangs. Overnight in hotel at Leh.
Day
07
(
Sept
4)
Full
day
visit
to monasteries
After
breakfast,
drive
for
full
day
of
sightseeing to the Shey Palace,
Thiksey, Hemis monasteries and Stok Palace Museum. Packed lunch will be
provided. Return to Leh in the evening. Overnight at Hotel.
The
Shey
Palace
is
distinguished
monument
and
a
historical building. The nine-storeyed palace was built by the 17th century
illustrious
ruler
of
Ladakh,
Sengge
Namgyal.
It
is an imposing structure,
though in ruins now, situated on a hill and commands a grand view of
the Leh
town. The building in grand Tibetan architecture is said to have
inspired the
famous potala of Lahasa, built half a century later. Namgyal Tsemo, the
peak
overlooking the town, are the ruins of the fortbuilt, by the king Tashi
namgyal
in the 16th century,
as
a
royal
residence.
Situated
at
a
distance
of
approximately
18
km
from the town of Leh is Thiksey Gompa, it is also recognized as one
of the
most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh. It came under the Gelukpa order
of
Buddhism. Lakhang Nyerma, a temple built by Rinchen Zangpo is
positioned in the
vicinity of Thikse Monastery. Today it stands mostly in ruins.

from
Leh
on
the
west
bank of the
Indus, the monastery belongs to Dugpa Order, built on a green hillside
surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, is hidden in a gorge. It is
the
biggest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh and is a must for visitors.
Stok
Palace
Museum
is
the
palace
museum
of Royal
family. The museum showcases the worthy royal artifacts and
paraphernalia which
include royal crowns, precious heirlooms, copper coins, prayer
instruments and
materials, precious stones and jewelers and also many very old 16th
century
Thangkas, the Thangkas represents the life and teachings of Buddha.

08

Sept
5)
Leh
to
Deskit {10,315 ft} 124 kms ( 6 – 7 hrs approx)
Drive
to
Hunder
via
KhardongLa
pass

ft. above the sea level. Pack
Lunch at Khalsar. Arrive Hunder by afternoon, walk around Deskit
village and
Sand Dune. Overnight in Camp.
Hunder
is
a
village
after
Diskit
Village
in
Nubra Valley. Its more peaceful with
more
pastures around. Hunder runs into a desert, a vast stretch of sand
dunes. The
desert against the backdrop of the rugged reddish-brown mountains, the
rolling
sand dunes seem truly out-of-the-world. One will see a few
double-humped
Bactrian camels.
treading

the
sands
and
one
can
take a camel ride on them
too.
Day 09 (Sept 6) Hunder to Leh 120 kms (
6 – 7 hrs approx)
After
breakfast
walk
down
visit
Deskit
monastery
and drive back to Leh.
Arrive Leh in the evening. Overnight in the hotel at Leh.
Deskit
is the largest and the oldest surviving monastery in the Nubra
Valley,
Deskit Monastery or Deskit Gompa occupies a special place in the
history of
Tibetan Buddhism and belongs to its Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect. Changzem
Tserab
Zangpo, the disciple of Tsong Khapa, the founder of this sect,
established the
monastery in the 14th century. Standing unnervingly on a hill right
above the
flood plains of the Shayok River, the Deskit Gompa happens to be a
sublet of
the Thikse Monastery in the Indus Valley, owing to the handing over of
its
control to the Rinpoche of Thikse Monastery in the mid 18th century.

10

Leh
to
Pangong
Lake

After
Breakfast
leave
for
Pangong
Lake

ft, through Changla Pass
17,350 ft. (third Highest Motorable road in the world.) Overnight at
camp.
Breathtakingly
beautiful
Pangong
Lake
is 134 km long and extends from India
to China.
60%
of
the
length
of
the
lake
lies in China. The lake is 5 km wide
at
its
broadest
point. During winter the
lake freezes completely, despite being saline water.
Day 11 (
Sept 8) Pangong Lake - Leh (160 Kms)
( 6 – 7 hrs approx)
Enjoy the
morning vistas around the lake. After
early lunch drive back to Leh. Evening free to explore local Market.
Overnight
in the Hotel.
Day 12 ( Sept 9) Leh – Keylong 359 kms (12 – 13 hrs approx.)
Start early to board the bus to Manali.Arrive Keylong by late
evening.
Overnight at Keylong in tent.
Day 13 (Sept 10) Keylong – Manali 115 kms ( 7 – 8 hrs approx.)
Start early morning by bus to Manali. Reach Manali by late
evening.Board the
night bus to Delhi

Delhi 540kms ( 13 hrs approx.)
Arrival
Delhi.

Ladakh is a high altitude region. Since few people have been to such altitudes, it is hard to know who may be affected by high altitude sickness. There are no specific factors such as age, sex, or physical condition that correlate with susceptibility to altitude sickness. Some people get it and some people don't, and some people are more susceptible than others. If one has not travelled to these altitudes before, it is recommended that you consult your doctor.
We usually advise dosage of Diamox 2/3 days before
reaching Sarchu as a safe precautionary, for this trip. Please also
consult your doctor before taking this medicine.Please also note that
we do not take responsibility for
reimbursements in the event that you are unable to complete the trip
due to high
altitude sickness and/or other personal reasons.

itinerary due to landslides, flight cancellations, weather conditions
