The Last Resort @ Coorg,Karnataka
THE LAST RESORT
- The house is set in a certified organic farm surrounded by coffee
and pepper and with paddy fields stretching to the Cauvery. It is a two
bedroom cottage with a loft and two bathrooms (for those diffident about
bathing in the river). The sparkling white walls and two level roof make
it easy to find and, of course, it is the last house on the right on the
village road of Hospatna. Across the paddies and the river is the Dubare
Wildlife Reserve with its creaking bamboo groves.
Things
to do:
Elephant camp at Dubare - just
a mile away along the river
For
the first time in India, Dr Shivaram of Jungle Lodges Resort Pvt Ltd, introduces
the Elephant Interaction Programme. Not just a safari ride but a whole
day full of things to do with the elephant and to get to know it. The day
begins at 9 am when you (or your children - age no bar) get to bathe and
scrub the elephant in the Cauvery. Then after its bath you will feed the
pachyderm and groom it, followed by a long, long ride in the forest on your
clean and well fed Ganesha. The entire package costs Rs.100 per person and
the money goes for the upkeep of the animal and mahout.
River Rafting (seasonal) and
Kayaking
For
the first time on the Cauvery - high adventure. Ride the river in spate.
Swirling waters scrambling over rugged rocks. Well experienced crew managed
by the whitewater expert John from the UK. Lifejackets, helmets and life
saving instructions provided. Starts at the Dubare elephant camp and ends
beyond Nissargadhama over 10 kms away.
Lifejackets and basic instruction
provided. These river side activities are for persons above 12 yrs and
physically fit. The operators reserve the right to refuse any person without
assigning any specific reason.
Mahaseer
Fishing at Valnoor
Just
5 kms upstream you can try your luck with the world's greatest freshwater
fighter - the Mahaseer. This relatively unknown fishers’ paradise can help
you reel in a new record. The current one is 42 kgs! The season is from Dec
to Feb. You need a license from the Coorg Wildlife Association, which can
be arranged. If you require assistance two Gillis (tribals) will help. Costs
will depend on the duration of stay and type of assistance provided. Tackle
is a pre-requisite.
Tariff:
Rs. 2500 per couple per day, inclusive of all meals.
